Belt Buckles
- Use a leather punch to make an opening for the prong, then use the punch and rivets to secure the leather around the buckle bar, and to hold the loop in place
- The loop is meant to keep the loose end of the belt in place. You can use a metal loop, or make your own out of a small piece of matching 5mm flat leather.
- The box frame buckles do not also need a loop, since the loose end of the belt tucks through the other side of it. Of course, you can add a loop for extra decoration if you wish!
- A standard belt measurement goes from the buckle bar to the middle end hole. About 5 holes are standard for a belt, and each hole should be 1 inch apart. However, making your own custom belts means you can do whatever you want with the number of holes and the spacing!
- The end of the belt can be angle cut, rounded, or finished off with a metal tip end. The metal tip ends provide a clean, professional look. Please note you will have to carefully trim the leather to fit into the tip end, as the OUTER width of the tip end needs to be the same as the belt leather, so that can all fit through the buckle. The tip ends come with metal pins to help secure the end to the leather. We recommend gluing the tip on, and hammering the pins in for extra security.
- If the leather strips are not long enough for your desired belt size, you can combine two by riveting them around a metal belt loop, decorative ring, or other design element. You could also punch holes in each side, and stitch them together with small leather cord.
- You can use the 10mm and 20mm buckles to make bracelets! We love this look because it is adjustable and easy to put on.
